Cottage

Balsam Grove

This is the only 3 bedroom cottage at Nor’Wester Lodge. The first bedroom has one double bed, the second bedroom has one double bed and the third bedroom has two single beds. It has a large spacious kitchen and living area complete with wood-burning fireplace and a shower bath only.

This cottage is located uphill from Poplar Lake about 50 feet, so it is set back from the lake further than the other cottages. It has a wrap around deck giving you an outstanding view of Poplar Lake. It has its own private dock and fire pit and charcoal grill area. It is one of the most isolated of any cottage (other than Towering Pines) there is nothing on either side of the cottage for about 500 feet.

Beautiful cabins along the Gunflint Trail. It is about 30-45 minutes from the town, which makes it the perfect escape. We stayed at the Towering Pines cabin and it was clean and comfortable. Even the beds were comfortable, which is one of my top priorities when traveling. Beautiful fireplace and the cabin overlooks Poplar Lake. Couldn’t ask for a better spot to rejuvenate and relax.

They are dog friendly (big and small dogs!). The staff were very helpful and took the time to explain and provide information. The lodge is closed during the winter months, but told us they could possibly open a cabin if we wanted to stay. Perfect place for snowshoeing and a hiker’s dream. There are literally a hundred of miles of trails. We saw plenty of wildlife and enjoyed the fresh air. If I could give them 100 stars, I would.

I really like the Nor’wester Lodge up on the Gunflint Trail, Carl and Luana are really nice.  Clean cabins right on the edge of the Poplar lake.  It was quiet and relaxing, great place to have a campfire and sit around and joke and laugh.  Charlie the black lab was great to play with the tennis ball.  My brother brought his Vistabule camper and loved the lake side camping spot they got to stay in.
